One flat price, and you hear it before we move

Most roadside calls turn into a negotiation on the side of the road. A number over the phone, a different number when the truck shows up, then a line item nobody mentioned. We took that out. A jump start is $125 anywhere on Staten Island, at any hour, in any weather, for any standard vehicle. You hear the price on the call, and it is the price you pay when the engine is running.

The number covers more than the boost. Before anything gets connected we read the battery’s resting voltage. After the engine starts we check what the charging system is putting out. That five-minute test is the difference between getting you moving and knowing whether you will be stuck again in the morning — and it is included, not an add-on.

$125 flat, any hour, any Staten Island neighborhood Quoted on the phone before we leave. Commercial dual-battery diesel is quoted separately.

What the flat rate covers

  • Mobile jump start at your location — driveway, street, lot, garage, expressway shoulder
  • Battery voltage test before and after the jump
  • Alternator / charging-system check while the engine runs
  • Terminal and clamp cleaning if corrosion is the problem
  • A straight answer: will this battery hold, or is it done?

What never gets added

  • No night, weekend, or holiday surcharge
  • No mileage or trip fee anywhere on Staten Island
  • No 'diagnostic fee' on top of the jump
  • No towing upsell — we don't tow, so we have no reason to tell you that you need one

Standard cars, SUVs, pickups, minivans, motorcycles, hybrids and EV 12-volt systems are all the same flat $125. Commercial dual-battery and 24-volt diesel trucks are the one exception and get a quote on the call.

Three steps, one phone call

How a Staten Island jump start call actually goes

  1. Call and tell us where you are

Cross street, lot name, garage level. Add the year, make and model and what happens when you turn the key. You get the price and an ETA on that call.

  2. We dispatch and call you back with an ETA

Typically 20–40 minutes anywhere on the Island. If traffic or weather changes that number, you hear about it before it happens, not after.

  3. We test, jump, test again, and tell you the truth

Voltage before the jump, a controlled boost at the right points, then a charging-system check with the engine running so you know whether it will start tomorrow.

Where we go on Staten Island

A jump start is only useful if the truck can actually reach the car. That is why we run lithium jump packs instead of relying on pulling a second vehicle nose-to-nose with yours — half the places a car dies on this Island have no room for that.

  • Driveways and street parking from the hills in Grymes Hill and Todt Hill to the tight one-ways off Bay Street, where a donor car cannot get alongside you.
  • The St. George ferry lots and the Empire Outlets garage, including upper garage levels. Tell us the level and the nearest entrance and we come to the car.
  • The Staten Island Mall lots and garage in New Springville, plus the big-box lots along Richmond Avenue, Forest Avenue and South Avenue.
  • The Eltingville Transit Center park-and-ride and the SIR station lots, where a car can sit ten hours in the cold while you are at work in Manhattan.
  • Hospital lots and garages — Staten Island University Hospital North on Seaview Avenue, the South campus on Seguine Avenue, and Richmond University Medical Center on Bard Avenue. Shift-change calls are routine here.
  • Expressway and parkway shoulders — the Staten Island Expressway, the West Shore Expressway and the Korean War Veterans Parkway. We approach from behind with lights on and put the truck between you and traffic before anyone opens a hood.
  • All four bridge approaches, on the Island side — the Verrazzano-Narrows, the Goethals, the Bayonne Bridge and the Outerbridge Crossing. If you died before the toll plaza, we meet you there.
  • Beach and park lots along Father Capodanno Boulevard, at Great Kills Park, Wolfe’s Pond and Clove Lakes, where the dome light gets left on more often than anywhere else on the Island.

Vehicles we jump start

Cars, SUVs, pickups, minivans and motorcycles are all the flat $125. So are hybrids and EVs, even though their 12-volt batteries are usually buried and the job takes us longer. Two categories have their own page because they have their own rules:

Motorcycles get a pack dialled down for a small battery rather than a car-sized boost. If you are not sure what your vehicle needs, say the year, make and model on the call and we will tell you.

Why car batteries die on Staten Island

This is the most car-dependent borough in New York City — the highest household car-ownership rate of the five — and the way people drive here is hard on batteries in a specific way.

Short trips never pay the battery back. Starting an engine takes a large withdrawal, and the alternator needs sustained driving to put it back. A hop down Hylan Boulevard to the store, or a five-minute run to the SIR station or the ferry, takes more out than it returns. Do that all week and the battery is quietly running a deficit.

Summer does the damage; winter sends the bill. Heat is what actually kills a lead-acid battery — grid corrosion and lost electrolyte over July and August. Cold is what exposes it. At 32°F a lead-acid battery delivers roughly 35% less cranking power than it does at 80°F, and at 0°F roughly 60% less, at the same time as cold oil makes the engine harder to turn over. A battery that was marginal in September is a no-start in January. In stop-and-go city driving, three to five years is a normal lifespan.

Cars that sit go flat. A second car in a Westerleigh garage, a work vehicle parked at the yard over a long weekend, a car left at the Eltingville park-and-ride while you are in the city — a modern vehicle keeps drawing the whole time for the alarm, the key fob receiver, the telematics and anything you plugged in.

Salt air eats terminals on the East Shore. In South Beach, Midland Beach, Ocean Breeze and along the water, corrosion at the posts creates enough resistance to stop a healthy battery from starting a healthy engine. Cleaning the terminals is part of the $125, because it is often the entire problem.

We wrote two guides that go deeper: how to tell the battery from the alternator and the starter, and what actually happens minute by minute on a jump start call.

When a jump start will not fix it — and what we do then

Sometimes a jump is the wrong tool, and you deserve to hear that from the person standing at the car rather than after you have paid someone. Here is what we find and what happens next.

The five things a jump cannot solve

  • A failed alternator. The car starts on the boost and dies again a few miles later, because nothing is recharging it. With the engine running, a healthy charging system reads roughly 13.5 to 14.7 volts. Below that, the alternator is the problem and the battery is the symptom.
  • A bad starter. One loud click, or a whir with no engagement, while the lights stay strong. All the current in the world will not help a starter that is not turning.
  • A dead cell. The battery reads low, takes a boost, and collapses under cranking load anyway. It is finished, and no amount of charging brings a shorted cell back.
  • Badly corroded or loose terminals. We clean and re-torque them, and often that is the whole repair. If the cable end itself has rotted through, it needs replacing rather than cleaning.
  • An immobilizer or anti-theft fault, or a frozen battery. A car that cranks fine and refuses to fire is a security or fuel issue, not a battery one. A frozen battery does not get charged, it gets replaced — forcing current into it is how cases rupture.

In every one of those cases you get the same thing: the numbers we measured, what they mean, and what the car needs next — in plain language, with no invoice attached to the bad news.

Staten Island jump start questions, answered straight

The seven we get asked most. There are more on the full question and answer page.

How much does a jump start cost in Staten Island?

$125 flat, any hour, any neighborhood. That price covers the trip, the jump, a voltage test before and after, a charging-system check while the engine runs, and terminal cleaning if corrosion is what stopped you. You hear the number on the phone before we leave, and it does not change when we get there. Commercial dual-battery diesel trucks are the one exception and are quoted on the call.

How fast can you get to me?

Typically 20 to 40 minutes anywhere on Staten Island, and you get a real ETA while you are still on the phone. We dispatch from the Island, so no bridge and no toll plaza is part of your wait. Rush hour on Hylan Boulevard or Victory Boulevard, and the far South Shore, sit toward the longer end of that range.

Do you cover all of Staten Island?

Every neighborhood, ZIP 10301 through 10314, from St. George down to Tottenville and across to Travis. Staten Island only. If your car died on a bridge approach, we meet you on the Island side of the Verrazzano-Narrows, Goethals, Bayonne or Outerbridge Crossing. We do not cross into Brooklyn or New Jersey.

Can you jump my car in a parking garage or the ferry lot?

Yes. We carry professional lithium jump packs, so no second car has to pull nose to nose with yours. Garage levels, the Empire Outlets garage, the Mall garage, hospital garages, the ferry commuter lots and tight one-way streets are all normal calls. Tell us the level and the nearest entrance and we walk straight to you.

What if it still will not start after the jump?

We test before we touch anything, so we usually know first. If it is a dead cell, a failed alternator, a bad starter or an immobilizer fault, we tell you exactly what it is and what it needs. We do not tow and we do not sell batteries, so there is nothing we gain by making the problem sound bigger than it is.

Do you charge more at night, on weekends, or on holidays?

No. $125 is $125 at 3 a.m. on a holiday and at 3 p.m. on a Tuesday. There is no night rate, no weekend rate, no mileage fee for the South Shore, and no separate diagnostic fee added to the bill. One price, quoted before we roll.

What should I have ready when I call?

Four things: where the car actually is, meaning the cross street, the lot name or the garage level; the year, make and model; what happens when you turn the key, whether that is rapid clicking, one loud click, a slow crank or total silence; and whether the car is a hybrid or an EV. Those four answers shorten dispatch and tell us which pack to bring.

Read all of our jump start questions and answers, or call and ask us directly — that is what the number is for.

Who you are calling

We are a Staten Island mobile jump start service. One job, one borough, one price. That is deliberate: it is why we can hold a flat rate and quote a real arrival time instead of a vague promise from somewhere across a toll bridge. Dispatch is on the Island, so nothing about your wait depends on bridge traffic.

What we leave out matters just as much. There is no tow truck and no battery counter behind this number, and no partner waiting on a referral when your car turns out to need more than a boost. That is the whole reason our read on your battery is worth anything.

What to have ready when you call

Four answers get a truck moving toward you faster and make sure we bring the right pack:

  • Where the car actually is. Cross street, lot name, garage level, or the nearest exit sign if you are on a shoulder.
  • Year, make and model. It tells us where the battery and jump points live.
  • What happens when you turn the key. Rapid clicking, one loud click, a slow lazy crank, or complete silence — each one points somewhere different.
  • Whether it is a hybrid or an EV. Different access, different procedure, same price.

That is all we need. $125 flat, day or night, anywhere on the Island.
